1. What is Silk Sericin?
Silk Sericin is a natural, water-soluble glycoprotein derived from the silkworm cocoon (Bombyx mori). It acts as a natural adhesive that binds the fibroin fibers (the main structural protein of silk) together. Comprising 18 kinds of amino acids (including 8 essential ones for humans), it is rich in hydrophilic amino acids like serine, which gives it exceptional moisture-binding properties.
Unlike the more commonly known Silk Fibroin (which is insoluble and structural), Sericin powder is prized for its solubility, antioxidant activity, and biological functions.
